Health 460: Global Health

Prerequisite or Co-requisite: HLTH 300

Analysis of public and international health issues as they relate to the individual, community, and society.

 

Detailed Description of Content of Course

The health educator should understand the scope and involvement of public and international health, its agencies, and services.

  • Topics include: history of public health, human resources, promotion of public and international health and public international health agencies.

 

Detailed Description of Conduct of Course

Students will gain knowledge through lecture, group discussions, and projects.

 

Goals and Objectives of the Course

At the end of the course, students shall be able to:

1.    Describe public health issues and causes of disease in industrialized nations.

2.    Describe public health issues and causes of disease in developing countries.

3.    Compare and contrast causes of death in different areas of the world.

4.    Discuss the health issues and concerns of people living in Africa.

5.    Discuss the health issues and concerns of people living in Latin America and the Caribbean.

6.    Discuss the health issues and concerns of people living in the Eastern Mediterranean Region.

7.    Discuss the health issues and concerns of people living in Europe.

8.    Discuss the health issues and concerns of people living in the Western Pacific.   

9.    Discuss the health issues and concerns of people living in other areas of the world.

10.   Speculate about the future of international health.

 

Assessment Measures

Students learning shall be assessed using a combination of the following measures: exams, group assignments, and/or projects.
