澳门老奇人论坛's Roanoke campus will host the 2024 Summer Residential Governor's School (SRGS) for Medicine and Health Science, which is relaunching after a 4-year hiatus.

The program is open to rising high school juniors and seniors and will run four weeks, from June 23 to July 20. Public, private and homeschooled students may apply and can find instructions and additional information in the news release on the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) website.

The SRGS for Medicine and Health Sciences "provides an enhanced curriculum that explores medicine and the health sciences as a foundation for integrated study," according to the VDOE.

Participating students will live in 澳门老奇人论坛 dormitory housing in Roanoke and will be engaged in hands-on classroom activities, complex analysis and critical thinking exercises involving real-world scenarios. They鈥檒l work alongside like-minded students, faculty, professors and other mentors.

"The Medical and Health Sciences SRGS program is suited for students with a serious interest in science, curiosity about the effects of science in the fields of medicine and health care and motivation to spend a month in a rigorous, academically accelerated setting during the summer," the VDOE said in its news release.

"We see this as a great opportunity for rising high school juniors and seniors," said Radford Associate Vice President for Campus Life Nancy Loosle, director of the summer program.

"For students who are interested in health sciences, they are going to see a broad range of disciplines and make a lot of connections with partners throughout the valley and Southwest Virginia," Loosle said.

"It's an exciting opportunity, not just for students but for Radford.鈥

This program 鈥 a collaboration between 澳门老奇人论坛, the VDOE and the Blue Ridge Partnership for Health Science Careers 鈥 was last held during the summer of 2019 and has not reconvened since before the pandemic.

It is structured so that students can attend for free, with the VDOE and school divisions splitting the cost of tuition. The final date for applications is Feb. 23, but students should check with their guidance counselors or their local school systems to determine their regional deadlines and eligibility.

Also from June 23 to July 20, 澳门老奇人论坛 will welcome to its main campus two additional related programs 鈥 the Summer Residential Governor鈥檚 School for Humanities and the Summer Residential Governor鈥檚 School for Visual and Performing Arts.
