Philosophy and Religious Studies

The Philosophy and Religious Studies major is ideal for curious minds who care about solving real-world problems, analyzing complex social and cultural data, and cultivating empathy and interest in other people. As a PHRE major, you鈥檒l learn skills in complex problem-solving, moral, and ethical reasoning, and analyzing and understanding arguments.

Opportunities for Philosophy and Religious Studies students at Radford

All Philosophy and Religious Studies (PHRE) students have opportunities to complete internships, capstone projects, and to collaborate with faculty on research projects. Our students are heavily involved with the on-campus student research conference called the Wicked Festival that is held each semester, and many PHRE students participate in mock trials.

PHRE students who complete internships find successful employment. Paige Emmer (鈥22) completed an internship in the department during her last semester and was placed as the Women鈥檚 Resource Center鈥檚 inaugural Administrative and Outreach Intern. Combining skills and capabilities developed through experiential learning in PHRE, Paige excelled so well that she was offered a full-time position at WRC before the internship had even concluded.
