I. Course Title: Research in Anthropology

III. Credit Hours: 1-4 credits

IV. Prerequisites: Permission of the Instructor

V. Course Description: 

Independent research or other scholarly study in anthropology carried out under the supervision of a faculty mentor.  

VI. Detailed Description of Content of the Course:

The student, with the guidance of their faculty mentor, will develop (or continue to develop) an area of scholarly inquiry.

Variable due to the diverse nature of scholarly research.

VII. Goals and Objectives of the Course:

Goal of the class: 

Students will be gain experience researching a topic in anthropology not covered by the regular Anthropological Sciences curriculum. 

Learning Objectives: 

  1. Students will be able to explain the fundamentals of their topic. 
  2. Students will apply their knowledge of their topic by carrying out a guided research process.
  3. Students will analyze the significance of the results of their research in an anthropological context.

VIII. Assessment Measures:

Variable by topic and instructor.  These may include a research product (paper, poster, quantity of data collected etc.).
