VI. Detailed Description of Content of the Course:

The last few years have seen an explosion in graphics visualization technology due to advances in mobile phones, tablet devices, digital capture-display-output, computing power, and miniaturization. This class covers those technologies that have the greatest potential to influence the future of graphic design and visual communication. Examples of topics covered are AR (augmented reality), VR (virtual reality), 360-degree panoramic video, 3D printing, projection mapping, and drone photography. For our students to remain competitive in the job market it is vitally important that they stay in the forefront of the new cutting-edge visualization technologies that are quickly being adopted in communication and design fields.

VII. Assessment Measures:

  • Projects will be graded on visual impact, production, completion, presentation, and timeliness.  Grades may be downgraded for sloppiness or poor effort.  All projects will be due on the date given and none will be accepted late.
  • Tight sketches of your ideas must be shown as called for and discussed before starting the project. This will be part of the project grade.
  • All info on due dates will be posted on the class Google Calendar schedule link located in the class Google site.

Most of the projects will be team oriented. We will meet as needed to go over your progress and layout sketches, and to check on progress and answer any questions.  These projects will all be presented during a critique in the lab.  You will create a Google site page during each module to track your research so the next team can benefit. This will be part of the presentation during the critique.  Grades will be assigned for presentation, production, & visuals, completeness and timeliness (anything not ready on the critique date will be counted as a zero).
