ARTG 489: Program Exit Review
Credit hours: (0), a non-credit review
Prerequisites: 鈥淐鈥 or better in all 300 & 400 level Graphic Design (ARTG) classes; restricted to
graduating seniors, BFA in Graphic Design majors
This required portfolio review is a presentation of graphic design and related works
completed in the junior and senior levels of the BFA in Graphic Design program. In
addition it includes a senior exit exhibit, a public showcase of the student鈥檚 best
work. It is a pass/fail course and may be repeated.
Detailed Description of Course
Before graduation, the student will be required to present graphic design and studio
work completed during their junior and senior year in a formal and professional manner.
A jury of faculty and/or outside graphic design experts will critique and grade the
student鈥檚 level of expertise and progress. The senior exit exhibit showcases the student鈥檚
best work.
Detailed Description of Conduct of Course
The Program Exit Review consists of student presentation of works of graphic design
completed since the Program Entry Review. These works are expected to be presented
in a professional manner; printed, mounted, or projected. An oral explanation of
design approaches and techniques utilized will also be required. A critique of the
work by a panel of faculty and/or graphic design experts will assess the work and
give the student important feedback on their progress and outlook. A public senior
exit exhibit will accompany the Review.
Goals and Objectives of the Course
Having successfully completed the Review, the student will have presented to themselves
and the faculty that they have the knowledge, skills, motivation and portfolio necessary
to graduate and continue into careers in their chosen field of Graphic Design.
Assessment Measures
Work will be assessed by the level of design competence, technical expertise, and
overall ability shown in the work using standard graphic design and artistic criteria.
It will be a pass/fail grade.
