ART 494

ART 494: Internship (3 or 6).

Prerequisites: Junior standing, 3.0 GPA in concentration, and permission of instructor.

In close collaboration with a supervising professor the student will arrange outside employment working in their field concentration, such as Graphic Design or Jewelry. By working in an actual job situation, the student will gain valuable real world experience, portfolio work, and possible future job contacts.

Note(s): May be taken only once for credit.

 

Detailed Description of Content of Course

The Internship can be utilized by students in the Graphic Design, Jewelry, and other areas of study in the Art Department.

 

Course Description of Conduct of Course

The course consists of field experience in the student's area of concentration where they will both observe and participate in actual on-the-job situations in a professional environment.

 

Goals and Objectives of the Course

Students will apply their talent and previously gained knowledge toward the execution of projects assigned by their on-the-job supervisor. They will gain valuable experience in how things work in an actual work environment. By working in a real world environment they will be able to gauge where their abilities and knowledge are in relationship to where they need to be in order to be successful upon graduation.


Assessment Measures

Assessment measures may include a presentation of the portfolio of work produced during the internship, a daily diary of work performed, a weekly summary, and a final paper detailing their work experience and what they have learned on the job. Input from the on site supervisor will also be considered.
