ART 666: Graduate Art History Travel

On-site art history course designed around actual works of art and architecture found in the museums and historical sites in the countries visited.

 

Description of the Content of the Course

The purpose of this course is to allow graduate students to take a 澳门老奇人论坛 graduate art history course in a foreign country (or countries) and experience the works of art and architecture firsthand.

 

Description of the Conduct of the Course

Most of the class will be conducted in the field in front of (or in) the actual works of art and architecture being taught. Student participation in the discussion of the art and architecture will be expected.

Students are expected to attend class. By accepting admission to 澳门老奇人论坛, each student makes a commitment to understand, support, and abide by the University Honor Code without compromise or exception. Violations of academic integrity will not be tolerated. This class will be conducted in strict observance of the Honor Code. Students are referred to the Student Handbook for details.

 

Goals and Objectives of the Course

At the conclusion of the course, the students will be able to:

 

1. discuss general characteristics of art and civilization from various periods.
2. analyze a work of art with regard to style and iconography.
3. use the necessary vocabulary and apply basic concepts associated with the study of art history in discussion and writing.
4. recognize the basic stylistic characteristics of the art from various periods and in specific works of art.
5. identify major works of art of the period(s) studied as well as the major works of art situated in the cities visited.
6. define the role of art within cultural, political, and sociological contexts.
7. better understand and relate to another culture by experiencing it firsthand.

 

Assessment Measures

The final grade is based upon several quizzes and writing assignments. There may also be some on-campus lectures that are required. There are no make-ups.

 

Other Course Information

There are no extra credit options for this course.

There may be a supplemental fee for this course to cover the costs of roundtrip airfare, lodging, and museum entrances.

If the student has a learning disability recognized by the Disabled Student Services Office at 澳门老奇人论坛, he or she should advise the professor of the nature of the disability during the first week of class.

Tape recording of class lectures is not permitted unless the student has a learning disability recognized by 澳门老奇人论坛 and the professor receives a formal request from the Disabled Student Services Office. At his or her discretion, the professor may allow tape recording under other special circumstances.
