BLAW 305: Business Law II

Credit Hours: (3)

An in-depth study of the laws affecting business organizations, property, wills, trusts and estates and insurance. In addition, other areas of the law affecting business may be covered as these areas emerge and as time permits.

Detailed Description of Conduct of Course

Primarily a lecture/discussion course, with classroom participation and presentations expected of the students. Instruction is augmented by outside readings and case applications at the discretion of the instructor.

 

Goals and Objectives of the Course

Having successfully completed the course, the student will be able to:

路         identify the types of business organizations

路         identify the "strengths" and "weaknesses" of each type of business organization

路         identify the rights and responsibilities of corporate officers and directors

路         differentiate between the various classes of property

路         differentiate the methods of acquiring property, and explain the significance of each method

路         differentiate wills, trusts, and estates

路         identify the reasons for insurance protection

路         identify insurable interests

 

Assessment Measures

Graded assignments may include in-class tests, a final examination, pop quizzes, the assignment and presentation of problem exercises, papers, and class preparation and participation.
