COSD 488H: Final Honors Project

Prerequisite: Completion of COSD general education requirements; enrollment in Honors Program; completion of all other Honors requirements; minimum 3.5 GPA in all courses and in COSD

Credit Hours: (3)

To earn a bachelor's degree with honors, a COSD student must conduct a faculty- directed research/professional inquiry project. In order to receive honors' credit, a student must earn a grade of "A" or "B" for the final project. Course may not be repeated or retaken.

 

Detailed Description of Content of Course

The content of the course will vary with each student. A comprehensive written and/or oral presentation of the project will be required. All final projects must be approved by the department and the Honors Council. Topics recommended are those that address diversity, technology, prevention, assessment &/or intervention in the field of communication sciences and disorders.

 

Detailed Description of Conduct of Course

The student's final project supervisor will ask two other faculty members, one of whom will be from the COSD Department, to serve as readers. The student's work will be evaluated by this committee and the Honors Council.

 

Goals and Objectives of the Course

The goal of this course is to provide COSD majors in the Honors program an opportunity to synthesize knowledge gained in major studies and to further explore an area of professional interest, based on that basic professional knowledge. The final project should demonstrate the ability to gather, analyze, and synthesize information, write a comprehensive report, and to communicate ideas effectively.

 

Assessment Measures

The supervisor of the final project and the final project committee will be responsible for evaluating the success of the project.
