COED 691. Internship in Elementary School Counseling

Prerequisites: Completion of 33 semester hours in good academic standing including COED 641, COED 642, COED 670 (or concurrently) and permission of the chairperson at least one semester prior to registration

Credit Hours: (3)

This course requires that each semester hour credit is the equivalent of 100 contact hours. Counselor Education faculty will determine credit hours available to each student. Students must register for three semester hours available for each internship.

 

Detailed Description of Content of Course

Supervised practice in school counseling. Each student will spend a minimum of 600 clock hours in internship. Of the 600 hours, 550 should be spent in the school. Approximately 330 hours will be spent in family, individual, and small group counseling. The remainder of the time in the setting may be spent in other professional activities such as consultation and coordination to supplement the internship experience. The focus of this course is on elementary school counseling.

 

Detailed Description of Conduct of Course

Internship - individual counseling (video taping required); group counseling; consultation with students, teachers, parents, school officers, community agency personnel, etc.; coordination with special education placement, school testing program, etc.

 

Goals and Objectives of the Course

To develop skilled school counselors.
