ESHE 124. Soccer/Indoor Soccer

Credit Hours: (1) Two contact hours per week. 15-week and 7.5-week courses are offered. 7.5-week courses may be blocked together for 2 credit hours

Practice and study of sport and physical activity skills.

 

Detailed Description of Conduct of Course

The major emphasis in this course is on the development of basic skills. Students are to master these skill: fast feet (foundation throw in; heading; and trapping (inside of the foot, thigh and chest). In addition to skills students need to understand the bounds, direct and indirect kicks, and throw-ins. The students will work in small groups to develop the use of triangles in offense and defense.

 

Detailed Description of Conduct of Course

The course emphasizes skill development as the foundation of playing ability in soccer. Students are given task analysis of the skills to be mastered and pre-assessed on these skills. Students are then assigned to groups to work on the specific deficiencies in skill performance. Early in the course the students are set into teams that will compete throughout the semester. Students will compete in a variety of situations from 1 v 1 to 6 v 6 as the course progresses to develop the use of triangles and team play.

 

Goals and Objectives of the Course

The goals of this course is to have the students master:

 

1. the skills task assessments in throw-in, kicking, heading, trapping, and fast feet:
2. the rules of soccer;
3. the ability to use triangles in game play.

 

Assessment Measures

Attempting to use this skills developed in class not necessarily on success.
