ESHE 498L Independent Study

Prerequisites: Junior standing

Credit Hours: (1-6)

Designed to permit students to investigate specific problems or areas of interest independently under the direction of a supervising professor. An Independent Study proposal must be signed by the student鈥檚 academic advisor, the department鈥檚/school鈥檚 chairperson, and the department鈥檚/school鈥檚 curriculum committee chairperson (if required by the department/school) prior to the deadline for adding courses in the term in which the study is to be undertaken. Independent Study courses may be taken either on a pass-fail basis or for a letter grade. No student may apply more than six hours of credit for Independent Study toward graduation requirements. 

 

Detailed Description of Content of Course

This Independent Study course is offered to provide the student with the ability to investigate independently specific problems in areas of interest in physical and health education under the close direction of a faculty advisor. The specific topic or problem is agreed upon by the student and faculty member. It is subject to the approval of the departmental curriculum committee and the chair.

 

Detailed Description of Conduct of Course

The selected topic of the student must have appropriate approval and this must be completed three weeks prior to the completion of the semester preceding the semester in which the project is to be undertaken. The proposal to be submitted for approval shall include: 1) specific goals and objectives of the study of the topic; 2) a general outline of the scope of the study; 3) a preliminary list of resources/references; and 4) a description of expected outcome and method/procedure for evaluation.

 

Goals and Objectives of the Course

The goals and objective are to be specified for the topic (see "C" above). The general goal of "Independent Study" is to provide an in-depth study of a specific topic or problem, beyond what is available in existing classes for the student.

 

Assessment Measures

Assessment measures are to be agreed upon and stated in writing prior to approval (see "C" above). At submission, the student must submit a written description of the assessment measures.
