FINC 441: Individual and Business Insurance Planning

Prerequisite: FINC 251 or FINC 331 and FINC 341

This course covers the appropriate uses of insurance products, such as property, liability, life, health, disability, IRAs, pension accounts, retirement income and annuity contracts for individual and business insurance planning.

Detailed Description of Conduct of Course

This course includes formal in class lectures, textbook cases and assignments, in class projects and a research paper and the presentation of the results.  Guest speakers also address current insurance topics of interest.


Goals and Objectives of the Course

The goals and objectives of this course are:
    1) To introduce students of all majors to the importance of insurance and proper insurance
       planning throughout their careers and entire lifetime;
    2) To increase the relevant knowledge of students with respect to the proper uses of insurance
       products so as to improve their future financial wellbeing and also to introduce students to the
       many choices of careers in insurance and the financial services industry.


Assessment Measures

Assessment measures include tests, examinations, written assignments, a term paper and class presentation of results.
