Catalog Description

Students are instructed on career-readiness and professional responsibilities in the health sciences. Employment and graduate school opportunities are explored.

Course Content

Topics may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Exploring the health science degree. 
  • Exploring individual strengths. 
  • Exploring individual career interests.
  • Creating a career vision.
  • Exploring time-management techniques.
  • Exploring career readiness skill building techniques. 
  • Writing a cover letter.
  • Developing a professional resume.
  • Building positive online social media profiles and branding oneself. 
  • Exploring professionalism in the workplace.
  • Exploring professional communications.
  • Preparing for graduate programs.

Detailed Description of Conduct of Course

This is an online, distance learning, course organized around student-centered learning modules, experiential activities, films/videos, lecture, case studies, guest speakers, and investigation of published literature. This is not a self-paced course, students are required to complete weekly course content. Students are required to attend three synchronous sessions throughout the semester.

Student Learning Outcomes

Having successfully completed this course, the student will be able to:

  • Discuss career opportunities in the health sciences. 
  • Describe professional responsibilities in the health sciences. 
  • Prepare a professional resume.
  • Create an action plan for professional growth.

Assessment Measures

 

Assessment measures may include a range of strategies such as student presentations, discussion boards, quizzes, exams, papers, virtual trainings training, case-studies, synchronous sessions, and online tools.
