ITEC 227: Animation for the Web.
Prerequisite: ITEC 109 or ITEC 120 with a grade of 鈥淐鈥 or better.
Credit Hours: (1)
Instruction and practice in the creation of advanced interactive animated content,
including audio, video and hypermedia applications for web and other digital media.
Detailed Description of Content of Course
Topics include:
1. Identification of the various types of animation content for the World Wide Web (e.g. animated GIF, FLA, SWF, HTML 5.0, JavaScript).
2. Working with multiple layer animation and compositions.
3. Working with timeline effects and interactivity.
4. Embedding and manipulating animated output within HTML such as objects, symbols, movie clips, graphics, and buttons.
5. Incorporating good aesthetics, layout, and design principles.
6. Image optimization: file size calculation, page load, bandwidth limitations, and animation quality in relation to display on different mediums.
7. Working with embedded and streaming video.
8. File structure, data transfer, and file transfer protocol (FTP) associated with
animated content.
Detailed Description of Conduct of Course
Program examples for some problems will be introduced via asynchronous online instructional
step-by-step tutorials. Students will then be required to finish some projects for
problems similar to those discussed in the online tutorials.
Students will progressively learn the necessary tools, techniques, and processes necessary
for the development of interactive animated content for digital mediums including
the World Wide Web.
Student Goals and Objectives of the Course
Students who complete the course will be able to:
1. Identify various types of animated content.
2. Demonstrate a working knowledge and examples of the various types of animated content (e.g. animated GIF, FLA, SWF, HTML 5.0, JavaScript).
3. Identify the tools, techniques, and processes required to create animated content for the World Wide Web.
4. Demonstrate how to utilize the tools, techniques, and processes required to create animated content for the World Wide Web.
5. Identify various digital video formats used for the World Wide Web.
6. Demonstrate how to edit, manipulate, and embed video for delivery on various forms
of digital media including the World Wide Web.
Assessment Measures
Students will be evaluated based on several major digital imaging assignments and
examinations.
