MGNT 460: Business and Society

Prerequisites: Senior standing and MGNT 322, or permission of the instructor

Credit Hours: (3) Three hours seminar

Contemporary issues organizations face with emphasis on the professional conduct of business in a dynamic environment. Special topics may include: business ethics, social responsibility, public affairs, competitiveness, community relations, labor relations, issues management or environmental management.

Note(s): Cultural or Behavioral Analysis designated course.

Detailed Description of Conduct of Course

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course focuses on building the skills sets necessary for the student to become a leader in promoting ethical and socially responsibility actions at the intersection of the economic, political, and social environments. Topics to be covered include capitalism, corporate social responsibility, business ethics, regulation, globalization, environmental policy, and employee relations.


Goals and Objectives of the Course

The student will be expected to:

1. Gain knowledge and insight to the semester鈥檚 selected contemporary issue(s).
2. Comprehend the dynamics of the selected topic and the potential impact managers and organizations today.
3. Continue to gain and refine researching, writing and critical thinking skills.


Assessment Measures

Assessment measures appropriate to the design of the course will be used. Case analysis, research projects and exams are strongly suggested.


Other Course Information

This course may fulfill one of the four electives required for the management major.
