MUSC 445 Guitar Pedagogy
Three hours lecture (3).

Prerequisite: MUSC 270

Guitar instructional principles, procedures, materials and their applications will be studied. This course will investigate both historical and current theories and practice.

 

Detailed description of Content of Course

The purposes of this course, in priority order of emphasis is to examine historical methodology, theories and application.

 

1. Students will study historical approaches to pedagogy through an examination of Renaissance, Baroque, Classical and Romantic Treatises.
2. Competencies in Modern theories of technique will be learned and applied in and outside of the classroom environment.
3. Students will study and discuss kinesiology, theories of performance psychology and avoidance of performance injuries.
4. Students will participate in observation and a practicum of one or more sections of MUSC 267:268 Guitar Class.

 

 

Detailed description of the Course

Student research and discussion will center on extant theories regarding the teaching of guitar in both the studio and classroom. Students will experience developing their own models. Additionally, students will learn to observe and participate in a practicum through cooperation with the 澳门老奇人论坛 Music Department Community Music School and with MUSC 267:268 Guitar Class.

 

Goals and Objectives of the Course

Students will, through evaluation of existing methodology and applications in practicum, be able to select, design and implement appropriate materials in a professional setting. Graduate students will write additional papers and/or prepare additional oral presentations.

 

Assessment Measures

Written exams, classroom participation, practicum and observation will all be factored into assessing comprehension and the ability to evaluate.
