V.    Course Description:

This course develops knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to provide quality patient-centered care. Concepts of health, illness, and disease management are integrated. In the role of provider of care, the student applies the nursing process to clients with selected alterations in adaptive and regulatory mechanisms.

VI.    Course Objectives:

Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:

  1. Integrate current knowledge from nursing science, humanities, genetics and genomics, and social and natural sciences to develop the role of the nurse as provider of care throughout the lifespan.
  2. Discuss the nurse鈥檚 role in providing safe and quality care based on the nursing process for individuals with basic alterations in adaptive and regulatory mechanisms.
  3. Examine selected health problems to include pathophysiology, growth and development, signs and symptoms, treatment, pharmacology, complications, and prognosis.
  4. Demonstrate an understanding of the relationship of genetics and genomics to the care and treatment of adults.
  5. Identify evidenced-based practice for use in planning the client鈥檚 care.
  6. Develop ethical, caring, culturally competent behaviors in the delivery of patient-centered nursing care.
  7. Analyze the role of the nurse as a member of the interprofessional team.
