V. Course Description:

Develops the student鈥檚 theoretical knowledge of holistic nursing care of the adult. Practicum provides opportunity to promote, protect, and restore health of acute and chronically ill adults through application of theoretical knowledge in a variety of settings.

VI. Detailed Description of Content of the Course:

The course objectives and topical content of this Level2 nursing course are derived from the 澳门老奇人论坛 School of Nursing鈥檚 philosophy and conceptual framework. This course facilitates achievement of the 澳门老奇人论坛 School of Nursing program objectives, the American Association of Colleges of nursing (AACN) Essentials of Baccalaureate Nursing Education, and the Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) behavioral competencies. Additionally, course content represents areas covered on standardized achievement examinations and the NCLEX-RN Test Plan. Current research, advanced nursing theory, and evidence based clinical practice recommendation aid in content development and course design.

VI. Detailed Description of Conduct of Course:

May include but not limited to: lectures, reading assignments, online assignments, classroom discussion, audiovisual aids, case studies, guest lecturers, gaming, role-play, clinical simulation, clinical site experiences, clinical conferences, presentations, journaling, and concept mapping.

VII. Goals and Objectives of the Course:

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:

1. Demonstrate knowledge of the social and cultural factors to the care of diverse medical-surgical populations
2. Demonstrate leadership characteristics to advocate for patient needs and rights
3. Demonstrate professional behaviors representative of the nursing profession
4. Demonstrate an understanding of the basic elements of the research process and models for applying evidence to clinical practice
5. Demonstrate knowledge of emerging technology methods to communicate effectively with all members of the healthcare team, including the patient and the patient鈥檚 support network and assumes accountability for one鈥檚 professional behavior
6. Discuss advanced directives and their impact on professional nursing care.
7. Utilize effective written, verbal, and non-verbal methods to communicate effectively with all members of the healthcare team, including the patient and family
8. Identifies the underlying pathophysiology of medical-surgical disease processes
9. Identifies medication management of medical-surgical disease processes
10.Plan safe, evidence-based nursing care to medical surgical clients that contributes to high-quality patient outcomes
