IV. Prerequisites: Graduate standing in Nursing or permission of the faculty.

V. Course Description: The effects of legal and regulatory processes on healthcare systems, nursing practice, and patient outcomes are examined. Strategies for policy advocacy as well as legislative and regulatory issues are explored.

VI. Detailed Description of Content of the Course:

The effects of legal and regulatory processes on healthcare systems, nursing practice, and patient outcomes are examined. Healthcare systems, policy design, implementation and evaluation are analyzed. Strategies for policy advocacy as well as legislative and regulatory issues are explored. 

VI. Detailed Description of Conduct of Course:

This online course may include but is not limited to seminar discussions (faculty and student led), lectures, guest speakers, case studies, written assignments, projects, and other teaching-learning strategies as appropriate. Because the course is online, audio or video presentations/lectures, discussion boards, chat rooms, and other instructional technology strategies may be used.

  3. Current local, state, and national health issues
  4. Policy advocacy strategies
  5. Active engagement to influence the local, state, national community and their officials
  6. Global health issues
  7. National and international policies to address health issues

VII. Goals and Objectives of the Course:

Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

Written assignments including papers and discussion board posts, group projects, presentations, and other discretionary methods of evaluation
