NURS 705: Primary Care Intensive

Prerequisites: NURS 710, NURS 712, NURS 714, NURS 716

Credit Hours: (1) One hour lab    

The Primary Care Intensive is an on-campus a hybrid interactive course concentrating on advanced knowledge and skills commonly encountered in the primary care setting.

Coruse Content

This course utilizes experiential learning opportunities for students to practice, improve, and assess competencies of advanced assessment abilities and
common primary care skills. This may include demonstrating suturing, punch biopsy, microscopy, use of assessment tools and equipment, physical assessment of individuals across the lifespan, and other learning modalities of topics common in primary care practice.

1.     Common Primary Care procedures

2.     Advanced health assessment techniques

3.     Diagnostic modalities

4.     Student peer collaboration

Detailed Description of Conduct of Course

This course is taught in a hybrid instructional format; online teaching and on-campus learning techniques may be utilized. The following teaching strategies will be employed, but are not limited to a focus on the development of knowledge and skills needed to deliver advanced practice healthcare to individuals and diverse populations across the lifespan.

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, the student will have the knowledge and skills to:

1.     Develop common primary care clinical skills

2.     Demonstrate advanced assessment techniques

3.     Practice and demonstrate advanced practical skills

4.     Engage in collaborative practical activities with peers

Assessment Measures

Evaluation measures to assess achievement of course objectives may include but is not limited to faculty and student led seminar discussions, lectures, guest speakers, case studies, reading assignments, written projects, quizzes, audio or video presentations, online resources, and other instructional technology strategies as appropriate.
