NURS 726: Advanced Practice Nursing in Primary Care 1: FNP Concentration

Prerequisites: NURS 710, NURS 712/714, NURS 716

Credit Hours: (3) Online

This course is designed to prepare the student for advanced clinical decision-making related to providing care in diverse settings with individuals, families, and populations across the lifespan.

Content

Students will focus on the development of knowledge and skills for clinical decision- making needed to deliver advanced practice healthcare to individuals and populations across the lifespan with a focus on wellness and assessment, diagnosis, and management of acute and chronic health issues.

Detailed Description of Conduct of Course

This course may include but is not limited to faculty and student led seminar discussions, lectures, guest speakers, case studies, reading assignments, written projects and other teaching-learning strategies as appropriate.

Student Learning Outcomes

1. Demonstrate critical thinking and diagnostic reasoning skills in clinical decision-making across the lifespan.

2.  Assess, diagnose, coordinate, and manage healthcare needs, including individuals and families from diverse cultures across the lifespan.

3.  Synthesize sources of evidence to develop plans of care addressing healthcare needs and wellness across the lifespan.

4.  Design patient-centered care to provide anticipatory guidance for expected changes in health status, quality of life, cultural, and socioeconomic considerations across the lifespan incorporating epidemiology and demography.

5.  Analyze safety and quality care concepts within collaborative interprofessional teams.

Assessment Measures

Evaluation measures to assess achievement of course objectives may include case studies, exams, quizzes, student presentations, and written projects.
