RCPT 400: Recreation Therapy Clinical Education Lab I

Prerequisite: RCPT Major in Recreation Therapy Concentration, Pre- or Corequisite RCPT 319.

Credit hours (3)

This course is intended to provide students with a supervised introductory practical learning experience in
support of Recreation Therapy lecture courses.


Detailed Description of Course

Content: This course is designed to provide students with an introductory opportunity to practice clinical skills in a model treatment
facility such as may be encountered in professional practice.  Students will be involved in all aspects of the operation of a
mock Recreation Therapy department including administration, equipment and space maintenance operations, provision of
professional services, clinical documentation, and professional accreditation attainment and maintenance.  
Emphasis will be on introductory level tasks as the student may experience in the internship and first employment opportunity.


Detailed Description of Conduct of Course

In accordance with the lab operations plan, students will schedule a minimum of 3-hours per week working in the lab completing
a variety of administrative and clinical tasks.  Tasks will be divided with approximately 1 hour per week devoted to administration,
programming, and maintenance of supplies and space. As part of the course, students will plan and implement programs for a
minimum of 3 client populations including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of those programs.

4) Analyze data and draw conclusions
5) Describe therapeutic and rehabilitation modalities used in allied healthcare settings.
6) Design and implement programs and interventions for specified client populations


Assessment Measures

A variety of assessment measures will be used that may include:  Evaluation of documentation according to professional standards,
employee performance appraisal, and observational critique
