RCPT 625 - Issues in Recreation Management

Credit Hours: (3)

The course covers issues which influence leisure services management such as financial analysis and future forecasting, financial accountability, politics, conflict management, strategic planning, and technological applications in managing and marketing leisure services.  Organizational simulations and role playing are incorporated n the course.

 

Detailed Description of the Content of the Course

This course addresses topics which are critical to the management of leisure services.  Issues such as decision-making cooperative problem-solving, economic impacts, and revenue generation strategies are essential for a professional working in leisure services management.  These skills are valuable for any managerial level within leisure services.

 

Detailed Description of the Conduct of the Course

The course will cover the theoretical material such as decision-making, strategic planning, financial analysis, future forecasting, politics, conflict management, and other management issues in leisure services.  Once those issues are addressed, the class will become involved with activities to implement these issues into a simulated leisure services organization.  A mock organization will be established.  Use of computers in the development of the budget and communication systems for this mock organization will assist in the technological applications necessary for its implementation.  Students will interact with their peers, the instructor and others to establish the organization within which most of the applications of theory will be based.

 

Goals and Objectives of the Course

At the conclusion of the course, the student will:

 

Assessment Measures

  1. Identify and implement strategies necessary for financial management including operating and capital budget development, revenue generation, accountability, cost analysis, and financial forecasting through management of their individual mock organization.
  2. 澳门老奇人论坛 the role of management associated with organizational behavior, politics, strategic planning, policy development, decision-making, problem solving and conflict management by implementing realistic scenarios for their mock organization.
  3. Identify legal factors associated with financial management, personnel management, and risk management through group discussion and written test/quizzes.
  4. 澳门老奇人论坛 principles and techniques necessary for active political involvement with board members, commissioners, and professional staff by communicating with instructor through computer mailings.
  5. Implement technology associated with the management of leisure services by use of spreadsheets and electronic mail.
  6. Demonstrate the economic impact of business and society on leisure services as well as the impact of leisure services on business and society through development of financial statements in their mock organization.
  7. Identify the role of the entrepreneur relative to society and leisure services through written test and quizzes.
  8. 澳门老奇人论坛 techniques of assessment, including technology associated with the role of management of leisure services through personnel evaluation scenarios assigned in course.
