RARE 410

RARE 410: Radford Amazonian Research Expedition Study Abroad

Prerequisites: RARE 400

Credit Hours: (2)

This course will entail the RARE study abroad experience. While on their study abroad, the students will be conducting their original research or scholarship as well as aiding the other students and faculty on the RARE trip with their research where appropriate. Students are also expected to engage in discussion with the other students and faculty on the research process and other events that may happen during this study abroad experience. 
 

Detailed Description of Course Content

This course will entail the RARE travel abroad experience. While on their study abroad, the students will be conducting their original research or creative scholarship project.  Student research and scholarship can take a variety of forms and be from any discipline within the university.  Final approval of the project will be given by the RARE faculty members leading the trip.  Students will also aid the other students and faculty on the RARE trip with their projects where appropriate.  In addition to conducting their research project, the students are expected to engage in discussion with the other students and faculty on the research process and other events that may happen during this study abroad experience.

Course delivery methods may include discussions, research activities, short writing assignments and team building exercises 



Goals and Objectives of the Course

Having successfully completed this course, the student will be able to:

Collaborate with other students and faculty to collect data and learn new field techniques.

Experience and discuss other cultures and ways of life. 



Assessment Measures

Assessment measures may include short writing assignments, a presentation of their research to date, participation in group activities and discussions of relevant topics. Additionally, we will administer an external survey to assess student learning gains.
