Retention Services advances a student centered culture of individual success and academic persistence through collaborative and proactive initiatives.

We provide support and guidance to students as they pursue their academic and personal goals.

Retention Services coordinates various outreach campaigns to ensure that students feel connected to the university, are aware of services available to them and know about upcoming academic deadlines.

  • Provide academic outreach to students by connecting them to appropriate supports and resources.
  • Meet individually with students to assist in their development of success strategies such as time management and creating effective study schedules.
  • Manage Starfish, an early alert system, that allows faculty to provide timely feedback to students and help advisors know how students are performing in their classes.
  • Oversee Success Coaches, who provide students an opportunity to discuss general success strategies such as time management, study skills, motivation, goal setting, and other strategies to help achieve academic success.

Starfish CONNECTâ„¢, the online appointment scheduling and case management module of the Starfish platform, facilitates meaningful contact between students and their advisors, instructors, and tutors. The module encourages students to engage more deeply in their academic lives by connecting them to the people and resources best equipped to help them succeed.

Starfish EARLY ALERT™, the early warning and student tracking module of the Starfish platform, collects information and manages concerns in a way that respects different groups’ unique workflows, so they can engage more deeply with more students.

Being a successful student is no easy task. Students face a number of challenges including managing stress, keeping motivated, developing positive study habits, and balancing academics, social, and work life. Meeting one-on-one with a success coach can help students develop these necessary skills to accomplish their academic goals.

  • What happens in a coaching meeting?
During a coaching meeting your success coach will listen to you about your experience and then walk through several strategies to help you improve in the identified area.
  • How often/how long do I meet with my coach?
Most students find one to two meetings will be enough to help them learn and begin to implement strategies to improve their success.  Appointments last roughly 30 to 60 minutes. We don't set a limit on the number of appointments.
