Current Season

  • Playwright Euripides was moved by the Greek massacre of the Island of Melos, to write what many consider the first anti-war drama. Against the backdrop of the devastated city of Troy he set his stinging indictment of the senselessness of war by focusing on those left behind鈥攖he women and children. Today, nearly 2500 years later, the play could be the story of any of the great number of conflicts going on right now. Playwright Ellen McLaughlin has created a gripping revision in her version of Euripides鈥 universal work.

*This play includes depictions of murder and violence against women and children including infanticide and discussions of war, rape, and other forms of violence.

When Penny, a charismatic political candidate enlists the help of silver-tongued operative Francine, the campaign trail gets littered with sex, money, outright deception, and even a murder or two. This raucous, oh-so-dark comedy about Penny鈥檚 quest to implement her nefarious plans in the Cornhusker State is a hilarious send-up of modern politics that might look oh-so-familiar.
